1. Where are you from?

Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. I’ve done some traveling but not too much. Still a lot of places to see and things to do.

2. Do you make your living at art?

Sadly, no. Currently, I have a non artistic fulltime job that pays the bills. I’m hoping though that the future will bring a change and I’ll be able to cast off the shackles of my non art internment.

3. Do you smoke or drink?

Only tuna, and only socially…..

4. Did you study art anywhere?

Yes. I studied fine art and received my A.F.A. at the junior college level. While there I also studied ceramics, design, and sculpture. Ceramics is way cool.. If I didn’t draw I would probably do some ceramic sculptures.

5. Why did you stop at an A.F.A.?

Money! I just didn’t have the resources to go on and spend 40k to let someone say, “hey, you can draw…” So, I managed to get about half-way through the B.F.A. program and then just slowly fell out from it. Also, my instructors at the junior college level where really top notch and I think I learned so much more than the next university would have taught me.

6. And is drawing your favorite?

By far. I’ve been split right down the middle when it comes to drawing. I create these fine art style figurative works as my reduction drawings while the digital means lets me get a more comic and commercial appearance to works. So when I start to feel overwhelmed I can put it aside and break out something totally different. That’s good.

7. Do you sell much artwork that you make?

Actually, not too many yet. I did sell a self portrait to my college. It’s been put in their permanent collection. Also I entered the 2005 Tom Of Finland emerging erotic artist competition. Took second place in the single figure category…. That was very exciting. But that was a win, not a sale….

8. Erotic art? Do you consider yourself an erotic artist?

Well, I don’t personally, but other people seem to bring that up a lot. I do like drawing a variety of subjects. It just happens that I like drawing attractive pictures of men most of all. And I want to try to be a little sexy and alluring but creative also with the images. Also, I really like drawing clothing like jeans, shirts, or boots. Those are very exciting for me to create on the paper. It's not just always a skin show.

9. So what inspires you?

Hmmm, well all kinds of stuff actually. Anything from music to movies, commercials, ads, billboards, reality shows, daydreaming, other artists...I usually find that something pops into my head from those things and I always look towards other artists for inspiration. College taught me to research other artist's works and learn from it while developing my own style. I think it's important to spend time soaking up other visuals for any artist. It does make you more attuned to what you do when you create a piece. I also get a lot of ideas while driving in the car too.

10. Interesting. So what’s your intent with the website, Studio H112?

I’m hoping that people will get to know my work and at the same time get interested enough to purchase some to enjoy in their own homes. I have lots of things sitting around to look at in my own house. Everyone should have art in their homes. It just makes life better. Something alluring, or just interesting. A conversation piece or a piece that sends the neighbors screaming out the front door. Whatever floats your boat…..
